Fall is by far my favorite time of year in Florida.
There are a ton of great events around the state that take advantage of the change of seasons.
Below are a few of my favorites that are definitely worth checking out. Be sure to visit the respective event websites for event dates and more information.
American Sand Sculpting Championship & Beach Festival
The American Sand Sculpting Championship & Beach Festival takes place in Fort Myers in late November. Visitors to championship are invited to admire creative sand sculptures from thirty of the world’s most skilled sand artisans. Events include quick sand sculpting where two competitors face off to quickly put together their best efforts, an amateur event open to all comers and the Florida state sand sculpting championships. Most events take place right in front of an audience. Marvel as skilled sculptors turn ordinary sand into glorious works of art right in front of your face.
Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
Fort Lauderdale, Florida is the site of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Visitors to the boat show can expect to find numerous fascinating show exhibits including displays from yacht builders and designers who will tell you all about their products. Featured in the boat show are also exotic cars not often seen in the United States and brokerage yachts for the experienced sailor who wants the ultimate in boating luxury. Visitors will also be able to see all kinds of boats including sportfishers, runabouts, high end high performance boats, fun cabin cruisers, highly maneuverable skiffs as well as the latest in express cruisers and sailing yachts. The show covers over three million feet of exhibit space and even offers a fishing clinic for children who want to learn all they can about the exciting world of fishing.
Epcot Food and Wine Festival
My wife and I attend this event almost every year, and if you like to eat and drink, it is an absolute blast.
Each fall the Epcot Food and Wine Festival plays host to dozens of first class chefs and fascinating cuisines from many under-explored destinations.
The Food and Wine Festival features appetizer sized portions of food from over a dozen countries from around the world as well as a wide variety of wines and beer to compliment all foods available. People visiting Epcot for the festival can attend seminars given by renowned food experts, attend delicious tasting events featuring unusual foods and even book dinners with food prepared by world class chefs. Admission to the festival is included with purchase of an Epcot admission ticket.
Florida Seafood Festival
As the name suggest, the Annual Florida Seafood festival is a celebration of Florida seafood. Each fall the festival takes place in the pretty town of Apalachicola at the mouth of the Apalachicola river in pleasant Battery park. Visitors will find events where they can sample delicious local fresh caught seafood, crafts showcasing regional artists, and enjoy live music at the same time. The event features an oyster shucking and eating contest as well as photo contests, a fireworks show and a parade. Other local area events celebrate the historic seafood culture of the region and include an exhibit on the festival and a blessing of the fishing fleet by local area religious leaders.
St. Augustine Nights of Lights
The historic town of St. Augustine plays host each year to the fall Night of Lights. Chosen as one of the 10 best holiday lighting displays in the world by National Geographic, the festival has been held for the last 20 years. Visitors can attend a lighting ceremony for the town’s Christmas tree, join a candlelit march through the entire town and listen to local concerts.
