I recently visited Solivita and was not at all impressed. The sales staff were less than friendly, almost acted as if they were above everybody else. The ammenities are lacking. There are no restaurants or shopping anywhere near the community. They advertise that Disnet is 21 miles away which is not very close and who wants to spend their retirement at Disney. Apparently there is nothing else around to use for advertising to lure prospective residents.

We came down to check out retirement communities a few weeks ago and went to “On Top of the World”, “The Villages” and “Solivita”. Of the three, I found “Solivita” to have more of the amenities I was looking for. The sales staff always vary from site to site and you pretty much have to take them with a grain of salt (obviously they are trying to sell you something). The Stonegate restaurant was top notch when we visited and the coffee shop was also good. Shopping and restaurants were plentiful within a reasonable distance outside of “Solivita”. As for being a short distance from Disney World and other attractions, we are drawn to this community for future children and grandchildren visits. We never encountered an unhappy resident and all of them were friendly and took the time to speak with us and all were extremely positive about living in this community. We found “On Top of the World” to be too far from anything to be of interest, primarily a golfing community and no water to be seen (even on the golf courses), and “The Villages” was just too darn big – we’d be just a number there. When we sell up and move, we will be going to “Solivita”! – additionally “Solivita” is one of only a few communities that are below the Sub-tropical line and has a near continuous breeze all day.

My wife and I visited Solivita about 6 months ago for 3 nights. We were treated well by the staff and all of the residents we came in contact with. There are two restaruants on the property but not much else close. My concern about Solivita is they are still building homes. I worry the builder will go out of business before the property is completed. What happens to the HOA then?
