The Kennedy Space Center is a must-see attraction for all Florida residents. That’s because there is way more to see and do there than just watch an occasional rocket launch.
The Kennedy Space Center is more than just a place in Cape Canaveral that NASA uses as a launch pad for their space missions. There is also a fantastic visitors center that rivals any museum or science center across the country.
The visitors center contains exhibits that feature historic spacecraft, artifacts that have been brought back from space, exhibits geared towards children, and a 3D IMAX theater. There are also optional tours that allow visitors to tour the working parts of the space center like the Launch Control Center, the Shuttle Landing Facility, and the Launch Countdown Clock.
Let’s take a closer look at some of the exciting experiences that are available for visitors at The Kennedy Space Center!
Visitors Center Exhibits
One of the newest and most popular exhibits at The Kennedy Space Center is the Space Shuttle Atlantis exhibit. This exhibit features the actual Space Shuttle Atlantis on display for visitors to see up-close. There is a detailed account of the 33 successful space missions made by Atlantis, as well as information about its construction. The exhibit also pays tribute to the International Space Station and the Hubble Space Telescope.
Another exciting exhibit is the Shuttle Launch Experience. This exhibit allows 44 passengers at a time to experience the feeling of blasting off into space aboard the Atlantis. After experiencing a launch for yourself, you will never look at space travel the same way again!
Children have been thrilled to participate in the new Angry Birds Space Encounter. This creative combination uses the popular Angry Birds characters in a space setting to teach children principles of physics and space exploration.
In addition to these fun exhibits, there are also a number of historic exhibits like the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, the Astronaut Memorial, a museum of Early Space Exploration, and an exhibit that details the history of the race to put a man on the moon.
Space Center Tours
Included in your entry to the Visitors Center is the opportunity to take The Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour. This bus tour gives visitors the opportunity to get up-close and personal with the actual space center launch pad.
If you are interested in diving even deeper into the actual working parts of the Kennedy Space Center, there are three other tours that you can purchase tickets to see.
