First off, what's not to like about Florida's West Coast, and Tampa is in the heart of it.
It's got great weather year-round, is easily accessible from most other parts of the country, particularly the Northeast where most retirees are coming from, and let's not forget about all of those great sports teams.
Here are a few great options to explore, most within an hour of Tampa city limits:
Cresswind at Lakewood Ranch – Lakewood Ranch, FL
Cresswind at Lakewood Ranch is a community of 650 single-family homes located just east of Sarasota and Bradenton. Amenities here include a huge community clubhouse, resort-style swimming pool, and access to additional amenities in the larger Lakewood Ranch community.
New homes at Cresswind at Lakewood Ranch are all single-floorplan models that range in size from two to four bedrooms with an optional upstairs bonus room. Prices start in the $400k’s.
Del Webb BayView – Parrish, FL
Del Webb Bay View is located in Parrish, which is in Manatee County, about 30 minutes away from downtown Sarasota, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. Like most Del Webb communities, residents can expect resort-style amenities hosted by a full-time lifestyle director. Even though this community only just recently opened, I’ve already had a few readers purchase homes there. Prices start in the $300k’s.
Del Webb Bexley – Land O' Lakes, FL
Del Webb Bexley is a fairly new gated community of 850 single-family homes just north of Tampa. Amenities here will include a 19,000-square-foot clubhouse with a state-of-the-art fitness center, a resort-style outdoor pool, a full-time activities director, and a homeowners’ associate to take care of general maintenance.
New homes at Del Webb Bexley are available in three different series that each offer three different floor plans. Altogether, those nine floor plans range in size from 1,372 square feet all the way up to 2,852 square feet. Prices start in the high $300k’s.
Del Webb Lakewood Ranch – Lakewood Ranch, FL
Located in beautiful Lakewood Ranch about halfway between Bradenton and Sarasota, Del Webb Lakewood Ranch will have nearly 1,300 attached and single-family homes across 17,500 acres. Residents here will enjoy access to all of the resort-style amenities you might expect from a larger master-planned community. Prices start in the $300k’s.
Esplanade at Wiregrass Ranch – Wesley Chapel, FL
Esplanade at Wiregrass Ranch is a community of single-family homes located in Wesley Chapel with convenient access to downtown Tampa. It’s an appealing combination of small-town charm and easy access to the big city.
You’re never far from upscale retail shopping in the Shops at Wiregrass, highly-rated healthcare facilities, casual eateries, fine dining, professional sports, enticing entertainment and exciting Gulf Coast recreation.

Kings Point, with over 5,200 homes is a snowbird's paradise. Kings Point is centrally located 30 minutes south of Tampa, 30 minutes north of Sarasota, and 30 minutes to the Gulf Beaches.This gated community offers over 200 clubs to keep anyone and everyone entertained. The two large clubhouses contain 3 indoor pools and 2 outdoor resort-style pools. There are also other heated pools sprinkled throughout the community. The community also features fitness rooms, pickleball courts, tennis courts, shuffleboard, bocce ball, archery range, horseshoes, and billiard leagues. Kings Point offers its residents free scheduled transportation throughout Sun City Center.
All of the homes are paired villas and the price point can be from mid $100k's to high $400k's.
Manors at Angeline – Land O’ Lakes, FL
The Manors is a collection of new single-family homes exclusively for active adults 55 and better at the Angeline masterplan community in Land O’ Lakes, FL.
Residents will enjoy a private amenity center and clubhouse with a resort-style pool, fitness center and multiple sports courts.
