In this article, I'll look at the many 55-plus communities in the Orlando area, but first, a confession.
As a native Floridian hailing from a different part of the state (east coast), I always swore that of all the great places in Florida, I would NEVER live in Orlando.
Too crowded, too much traffic, and too big were just a few of my ready excuses.
But like they say, “never say never”!
Now that I actually live in the Orlando area, I think you'd have a hard time getting me to leave.
My excuses for shunning Orlando all those years might be true if we're talking specifically about downtown Orlando. I typically try to avoid I-4, the interstate that runs through downtown Orlando, as much as I can.
But most of the suburban cities around Orlando itself don't have those problems and serve as the perfect place to live while having easy access to The City Beautiful.
As you'll see in this article, the surrounding cities of Kissimmee, St. Cloud, Winter Garden, and Clermont among others have become retirement hotspots, and there are a large number of new 55+ communities in Orlando to consider.

Del Webb Oasis – Winter Garden
Del Webb Oasis is located just minutes from Orlando area theme parks and attractions.
Like most Del Webb 55+ communities, Del Webb Oasis has a long list of amenities for residents to enjoy, including a 12,000 sq. ft. resort-style amenity center.
Del Webb offers 13 different floorplans here from their “Scenic”, “Distinctive”, and “Echelon” home series, plus the “Ellenwood” from their attached villa series. Prices start in the $400k's.
Del Webb Sunbridge – St. Cloud

The community is only one mile from the Florida Turnpike, which makes getting just about anywhere you need to go in the greater Orlando area extremely easy. You can expect to see the same types of homes and amenities offered in other Del Webb communities here in Florida.

Four Seasons at Orlando – Kissimmee, FL
Four Seasons at Orlando is a gated community of 557 single-family homes located in Kissimmee, Florida, just south of Orlando. Amenities here include a 14,000-square-foot clubhouse with a state-of-the-art fitness center and an arts and crafts room, as well as an outdoor swimming pool, pickleball courts, and access to the 18-hole Mystic Dunes Golf Club.

Gatherings of Lake Nona – Orlando, FL
Gatherings of Lake Nona is a community of 216 condos located inside the master-planned community of Lake Nona, just outside of Orlando. Residents here can enjoy a low-maintenance lifestyle, as well as access to amenities like a large clubhouse, outdoor pool, and a dog park.

The Lakes at Harmony – St. Cloud, FL
