Melbourne Retirement Guide

by Ryan Erisman | Updated: January 12, 2024

Melbourne offers a relaxed coastal lifestyle that is perfect for those looking to enjoy their retirement years in style without breaking the bank.

Read on for some of the things we think are most attractive about Melbourne Florida, earning it a spot on our list of the best places to retire in Florida.

Location

Melbourne is located on Florida's east coast, about an hour southeast of Orlando and a little less than an hour north of Vero Beach.

This part of Florida is often called the Space Coast, thanks to Kennedy Space Center, which is about about an hour north of Melbourne.

Flying in and out of Melbourne could not be any easier thanks to Melbourne Orlando International Airport, which at the time of this writing is served by Allegiant, American, Delta, and Sun Country.

But if the routes those airlines offer don't suit your needs, Melbourne is only about an hour away from Orlando International Airport.

Cost of Living

One thing that attracts retirees to the Melbourne area is that it is among the least expensive places to live in Florida.

The cost of living in Melbourne is well below both the national average cost of living, as well as the average cost of living in Florida.
