Things to Do in Florida: April 2019

by Andrew Selby | Updated: March 26, 2019

Can you believe that the second quarter of 2019 is already here? And just like every other month this year, there is an incredible amount of things to do happening all over the beautiful state of Florida in April.

Whether you are looking for arts and crafts, food and wine, music and film, or something close to nature, there are exciting festivals happening just about every weekend this month, and we have hand-picked some of the best for you to put on your calendar.

Art & History

Florida Keys Island Festival

Most people don't require a “good reason” to take a trip down to the Florida Keys, but the Florida Keys Island Festival is definitely a good reason to head south. This fun event will open up the first weekend of April with all kinds of music and food, but we are putting it in the art category because they are expecting more than 100 arts and crafts vendors to be on hand at Founder's Park in Islamorada.

Art Among the Trees Festival

DeLeon Springs will be hosting the Art Among the Trees Festival on Saturday, April 13. Much like the Florida Keys Island Festival, this event will feature a combination of food, music, and art to create a truly immersive outdoor experience.

Pioneer Days Festival

The final weekend in April is packed full of fun things to do in Florida, but all of the history buffs will be heading to High Springs (near Gainesville) for the community's 43rd annual Pioneer Days Festival. The main attraction here will be the festival's Heritage Villages, which will feature a wide range of craftsmen demonstrations.

Food & Beverage

Sandestin Wine Festival

In addition to more than 500 wines available for tasting, the Sandestin Wine Festival will also include fun excursions like a seafood and champagne voyage, yoga with mimosas, and gourmet wine dinners. With all of that on tap, Sandestin is definitely going to be the place to be on April 11 to 14.

Pompano Beach Seafood Festival

It seems like not a month goes by without a spectacular seafood festival of some sort here in Florida, and one of the big ones this month is the Pompano Beach Seafood Festival on April 26 to 28. In addition to great seafood, there will also be plenty of live music and fun attractions to see here.

Pinellas Pepper Fest

Anyone who enjoys a little heat on their tacos is going to want to be at Pinellas Park on April 27 and 28 for the Pinellas Pepper Fest. All of the hottest peppers will be on hand, and there will be interesting competitions featuring spicy salsas and hot sauces, as well as a hot pepper eating contest.

Music & Film

Stringbreak Music Festival

Some people come to Florida for Spring Break. Others come for Stringbreak. Music fans will be heading to the Nature Coast on April 11 to 14 for this rugged outdoor music fest featuring everything from bluegrass to rock tunes.

Rock the Ocean Music Festival

Fort Lauderdale Beach will be hosting one of the biggest events of the month when the Rock the Ocean Music Festival comes to town on April 12 to 14. Headliners for the event this year include everyone from Kenny Chesney and Jason Aldean to Flo Rida and Cassaddee Pope.

Fort Myers Beach Film Festival

If film is your passion, you will feel right at home in Fort Myers Beach from April 24 to 28 for the Fort Myers Beach Film Festival. This is the 13th year for this festival, and they are expecting some fantastic film debuts in one of the best beach settings in all of Florida.

Nature Festivals

Orchid & Plant Festival

The Sawgrass Nature Center in Coral Springs will be hosting their Orchid & Plant Festival on April 6 and 7. In addition to the beautiful flowers on display, visitors will also be treated to garden art, delicious food, and creative cocktails.

Florida Birding and Photo Fest

Anyone with the combined passion for birding and photography will want to make sure they are in St. Augustine for the Florida Birding and Photo Fest from April 24 to 28. With more than 110 events happening around the town over four days, this is going to be information overload for anyone who enjoys capturing pictures of birds.

Blue Wild Ocean Expo

Another big event for nature lovers this month is the Blue Wild Ocean Adventure Expo in Fort Lauderdale on April 27 and 28. Everything that has anything to do with the water will be on display at the Broward County Convention Center for this event.

Whether you are more passionate about the art showing and music festivals or the food and nature events, there is something for everyone happening in the Sunshine State this month. The only question that you have to ask yourself is which of these festivals you are most interested in attending. And make sure you let us know which ones you go with!
