Things to Do in Florida: February 2019

by Andrew Selby | Updated: January 31, 2019

The Annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival

February is going to be a big month to get out and experience all that there is to see and do across the state of Florida. Whether you are looking for arts festivals, food experiences, great music, or a chance to get close to nature, we have got you covered with all of the best events happening across the Sunshine State this month.

And while it might not fit into any of those categories, one of the biggest events happening this month is the Florida State Fair at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. This massive event will run from February 7 through February 18 with fun and exciting things to see and do just about every day in between.

But there are plenty of other events happening across the state this month too! Here are some of the ones that we are most excited about.

Art & History

International Kinetic Art Exhibit & Symposium

February is going to be a great month to visit downtown Boynton Beach, which will be hosting the International Kinetic Art Exhibit & Symposium. There will be 12 huge kinetic sculptures placed around Boynton Beach starting on February 2, and visitors can participate in a self-guided tour to see and interact with all of them.

Lake Worth Street Painting Festival

Downtown Lake Worth is the place to be for art lovers on February 23 and 24 for the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival when they turn their streets into blank canvases for artists to work with. That pavement will become stunning artwork created with chalk that will only be on display until the rain washes it away.

Edison Festival of Light

The winter home of Thomas Edison is located in Fort Myers and every February the entire city comes together to celebrate the Edison Festival of Light. There will be fun Edison-related events and attractions happening all over town from February 9 through 18, so this is a great time to visit Fort Myers.

Food & Beverage

South Beach Wine and Food Festival

We can't talk about food-related festivals in February without mentioning the Food Network and Cooking Channel South Beach Wine and Food Festival. All of your favorite TV food celebrities will be making appearances in and around Fort Lauderdale for this spectacular food event that runs from February 20 through February 24.

Everglades Seafood Festival

Another South Florida festival that foodies won't want to miss is the Everglades Seafood Festival, which will feature over 100 vendors serving up their version of classic Florida seafood. This one will be happening on February 8 through 10 at City Hall on the Circle in Everglades City.

Florida Food & Brews Festival

All of the Gulf Coast food lovers will be flocking to the Tampa area on February 23 and 24 for the Florida Food & Brews Festival. This one is all about local restaurants and food trucks that are doing big things to put Florida on the foodie map.

St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival

This wouldn't be a Florida for Boomers article if we didn't mention at least one wine festival, and the one that stands out this month is the St. Augustine Spanish Wine Festival that will be happening on February 15-17. There will be more than 100 Spanish wines to sample over the weekend, so make sure that your palate is ready.

Music & Film

III Points Music & Arts Festival

The Wynwood Arts District in Miami will be hosting one of the largest music festivals of the winter when the III Points Music & Arts Festival comes to town from February 15 through 17. There will be more than 100 different acts performing late into the night at this wild festival.

Coral Head Music Festival

Vince Neil will be the featured performer at the Coral Head Music Festival at the Marathon Community Park Amphitheater in Marathon on February 16 and 17, which makes this a great time to head down to the Keys for some R&R!

Bonita Springs International Film Festival

Bonita Springs will be hosting film lovers from February 21 through 24 for their annual Bonita Springs International Film Festival. This event will feature more than 70 different films shown at various locations around the town, and there will also be workshops and Q&A sessions with filmmakers, writers, and actors.

Outdoor Festivals

Gardenfest

Anyone with a passion for gardening will want to be heading to Vero Beach on February 2 and 3 for Gardenfest. This annual event will feature more than 85 vendors selling just about anything and everything you can imagine for your gardens.

Orange Blossom Festival Rodeo

The town of Davie is located just west of Fort Lauderdale, and that is where you will find the Orange Blossom Festival Rodeo happening on February 23 and 24. If you are interested in seeing what a real professional rodeo looks like, this is your chance to experience one for yourself.

Airboat Show & Festival

Davie will also be hosting the Airboat Show & Festival at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds on February 9 and 10. Airboats are one of the most popular tourist attractions all over the state of Florida, and this is a great place to get up close and personal with a wide range of the best ones out there.

With all of these exciting events and activities happening all over Florida, it is easy to see why so many Boomers choose to move here. Which events are you going to be putting on your calendar this month?
