If you are looking for a smaller 55+ community on the east coast of Florida, without astronomical starting home prices, Veranda Preserve deserves a closer look.
Let's start with this overview video from the builder, Lennar:
Among the popular places to retire in Florida, Port St. Lucie is where retirees will find some of the better (lower) starting home prices, especially when compared to places further south or over on the west coast of Florida.
And among this selection of lower priced communities in Port St. Lucie, the prices at Veranda Preserve tend to be among the lowest.
It's not the biggest community, there are only 261 homesites, so if you are the type of person that's interested in making loads of new friends and wanting hundreds of clubs and activities at your disposal, Veranda Preserve is likely not for you.
Home prices start in the $300k's, and there are about a dozen different floorplans to choose from, ranging in size from 1,410 sq. ft. of living area up to around 2,800 sq. ft. of living area.
Home prices are one thing, but you also have to be mindful of what the HOA fees are in any community you're considering. They're actually pretty low here, just $255/month at the time of this writing.
This includes use of all of the amenities (clubhouse, etc.), as well as most of the landscaping at your home (grass cutting, shrub trimming, etc.).
Speaking of amenities, the clubhouse is the social hub of the community and includes a restaurant, bar, and multiple gathering spaces. There's also a fitness center and an aerobics studio.
Outside there's a resort-style pool, sports courts (tennis/pickleball), an event lawn, and more.

I've covered before all that Port St. Lucie has to offer so I won't go too in depth on it here, but Veranda Preserve is just minutes away from beautiful beaches, a Publix-anchored shopping center, Treasure Coast Mall and the spring training home of the New York Mets.
