The St. Joe Company recently announced plans to develop pockets of “The Villages” style retirement communities in Northwest Florida.
Those projects are still a little ways off, but St. Joe has a new development underway there already named Watersound Origins.
While not age restricted, its got a lot of the features and amenities I know you're looking for.
Touching the banks of Lake Powell, one of Florida's largest coastal dune lakes, rests Watersound Origins, a 1,400-acre community with uncompromising ideals and standards in planning, architecture, aesthetics and amenities.
Located in the Florida Panhandle, Watersound Origins offers a relaxed setting amid the natural beauty of Lake Powell and towering pines with the convenience of quaint shops, lively eateries and local activities of famed Scenic Highway 30-A just three miles south.
Influenced by maritime architecture of year's past, the Watersound Origins community's architectural design re-imagines and modernizes the coastal shingle home into a vernacular building style that is distinctly Florida.
A variety of floor plans ideal for families, individuals or seasonal residents are offered starting in the mid $400's.
In celebration of its natural surroundings, this community will promote an array of outdoor recreational activities.
Kayak on Lake Powell, play with your children or grandchildren in the neighborhood parks, or walk along the trails and paths winding throughout the community.

We are interested in this neighborhood. We live in Atlanta and would like an active community to eventually retire in. We are in our early 60s and 50s respectively.
