Wellen Park Retirement Guide

by Ryan Erisman | Updated: March 21, 2026

The Venice area on Florida's west coast has seen a lot of demand and growth in recent years and that's thanks in large part to the development of Wellen Park.

Wellen Park is a master-planned community that is home to several different neighborhoods, shops, restaurants, and lots of amenities for residents (and non-residents) to enjoy.

Wellen Park spans approximately 11,000 acres and it is estimated that there will be about 22,000 homes at time of completion which is many years away.

Let's take a closer look at some of the things that make Wellen Park such a popular choice.

Location

There are four airports within an hour of Wellen Park which makes getting there from just about anywhere a breeze.

Sarasota Bradenton International is about 30 minutes away, Punta Gorda Airport is about 35 minutes away, and Tampa International and Southwest Florida International are both about an hour away.

Wellen Park is just minutes from some of Florida's best beaches, and several other popular cities are also within easy reach:

  • Tampa: 79 miles
  • Bradenton: 42 miles
  • Sarasota: 30 miles
  • Punta Gorda: 20 miles
  • Fort Myers: 57 miles
  • Naples: 98 miles

Amenities

While each individual neighborhood within Wellen Park will have their own amenities (think clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, pickleball courts, etc.) there are some terrific places and things in Wellen Park available for all to enjoy.

One of the more popular places is Downtown Wellen. This vibrant premier shopping, dining, and entertainment destination is a pedestrian-friendly downtown and emphasizes connections to nature and community and celebrates a waterfront vibe. The 80-acre Grand Lake providing a scenic backdrop and opportunities for fishing and paddle sports.

You’ll love enjoying time on the water and along the 3-mile lakefront trail where you can even rent kayaks and paddle boards. From boutique shops to waterfront dining to casual eateries, there is something for everyone’s taste. Weekly live music, a farmer’s market, and full events calendar provide tons of fun!

The Wellen Park Marketplace is a Publix-anchored shopping plaza that includes a mix of restaurants, shops, and services.

But in my opinion, one of the coolest things about Wellen Park is having CoolToday Park, the Spring Training home of MLB's Atlanta Braves, right in their own backyard.

Where to Live in Wellen Park

There are several different neighborhoods within Wellen Park, but one of the newest ones is Lakespur::
