Where the Cool Kids Retire

by Ryan Erisman | Updated: June 8, 2022

Where the Cool Kids Retire is a new video campaign from On Top of the World in Ocala, FL.

You can check it out right here:

The video gives you an incredible look at the amenities residents get to enjoy every day. Things like 54 holes of golf on three courses, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, a private R/C flying field, bocce, racquetball and basketball courts, fitness center, health club and spa, restaurants, cultural venues, and much more.

One of the golf courses there, Candler Hills, was recently ranked #10 on the Golf Pass list of the best golf courses in Florida. For comparison, TPC Sawgrass with its famous 17th hole island green you watch the pros struggle with every March was ranked #16, which in itself says a lot about Candler Hills.

On Top of the World residents can also participate in over 175 clubs, leagues, hobbies, and lifelong learning opportunities.

It's not hard to see why On Top of the World was the 3rd best-selling 55+ community in the country last year, with 635 new home sales.

One of my readers and Florida Retirement Insider members, Curt, is building a home there right now and he recently posted a 2,745 word message to fellow Florida Retirement Insider members, part of which explained why he chose On Top of the World over The Villages.

Here's an excerpt:

Our choice in the end is On Top of the World (OTOTW).  Overall, it has all of the activities/amenities we’re looking for while being much less congested as compared to The Villages.  Trust me, we’d love to live in The Villages for many reasons.  But, it’s getting too crowded, the homes are quite small, as are the lots, and it’s expensive.

OTOTW, on the other hand, the homes are much larger, the lots (for the estate homes) are .25 acre, spreading the homes out a bit, and the cost to build is very reasonable.  It’s less crowded.  They have three recreational centers with more to come.

The town square is similar to those in The Villages, but not as congested with retail.  However, along the border of OTOTW, you have lots of shopping and restaurants within reach of golf carts.  Speaking of which, you don’t really need a gas cart, electric will suffice. Another good thing about OTOTW is that it’s near The Villages, so we’ll be able to pop over to any of The Village squares and hang out.

Lastly, not too far, is the city of Ocala, malls, shopping centers, recreation, etc.

He went on to describe his home design and selection process, getting in to fine detail on how much he spent on upgrades and extras and why he went with some items over others. You can sign up and read the whole thing right here.
