Things to Do in Florida: November 2019

by Andrew Selby | Updated: November 1, 2019

Silver Springs in Ocala, FL

We are winding our way down to the end of 2019, but that isn’t going to stop the cities and towns all over Florida from packing their calendars with all kinds of unique events and festivals to keep residents busy here in the Sunshine State!

No matter what part of the state you call home, there is something exciting happening just about every weekend in November, and there are also plenty of great excuses to plan a quick, last-minute getaway to check out something on the other side of the state as well.

Let’s jump in and take a closer look at some of the events and festivals that should be on your radar this month.

Art & History

Miami International Auto Show

The first big event of the month will be the Miami International Auto Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center from November 1 to 10. This car show is actually a perfect hybrid of art and history that will feature some of the most amazing (and most expensive) rides you have ever seen.

Foo Foo Festival

Another long festival that will be starting right at the beginning of the month is the Foo Foo Festival in Pensacola. This 12-day festival celebrating art and culture will kick off on October 31 and run through November 11. Some of the highlights will be “Flying Art: Painting With Axes” on November 2 and “Joshilyn Jackson Writer’s Workshop” on November 9.

Mount Dora Highland Festival

Donnelly Park and Elizabeth Evans Park will be filled with the sound of bagpipes during the Mount Dora Scottish Highland Festival on November 16 and 17. This festival celebrates Scottish heritage through entertainment, dancing, games, and of course, food.

Food & Beverage

Stone Crab Jam

November marks the first full month of stone crab season here in Florida, and the Stone Crab Jam in Crystal River on November 2 is all about those delicious claws. In addition to vendors selling stone crab claws, there will also be live entertainment, games, and other refreshments available.

John Offerdahl’s Gridiron Grill-Off

This year’s Miami Dolphins team might not have a win yet, but that doesn’t change how we feel about some of the all-time legends that played for the ‘Phins. More than 20 ex-Dolphins are scheduled to be at John Offerdahl’s Gridiron Grill-Off on November 9 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater.

Paradise Coast Food & Wine Festival

The Paradise Coast Food & Wine Festival will be taking over downtown Naples on November 23. Some of the biggest attractions here will be the “Grand Tasting” that features a number of local chefs and a “VIP Meet & Greet” experience with the one-and-only Martha Stewart.

Music & Film

Miami Smooth Jazz Festival

Anyone interested in jazz music will want to be in Miami for the Miami Smooth Jazz Festival at Zoo Miami on November 9 and 10. The main stage will feature dozens of popular jazz musicians throughout the festival, and there will be plenty of amazing food as well.

Riptide Music Festival

Another popular music festival happening in South Florida this month will be the Riptide Music Festival, which happens right on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. This year’s performers include The Killers, Jimmy Eat World, Silversun Pickups, Reel Big Fish, Switchfoot, and Soul Asylum.

Key West Film Festival

There are a few different film festivals happening around Florida during the month of November, but the one that is worth a special trip is going to be the Key West Film Festival running from November 20 to 24. Just like everything else in Key West, this one is going to be a non-stop party!

Nature Festivals

Hobie 16 World Championship

For the first time since 1984, the Hobie 16 World Championships are going to be held in the United States. There will be more than 400 competitors from 25 different countries participating at the Hobie 16 World Championship at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island from November 1 through 16.

Right Whale Festival

Preserving and protecting the North Atlantic right whales is the name of the game at the Right Whale Festival in Fernandina Beach on November 2 and 3. In addition to tons of information about right whales, there will also be live music, arts and craft vendors, and plenty of food available.

Edison Ford Garden Festival

The popular Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers will be hosting the Edison Ford Garden Festival on November 23 and 24. The estates will be filled with plant and garden vendors, which makes this the perfect time to plan a visit to check out the beautiful gardens and rich history that they work so hard to preserve.

Whether you are excited about the Miami International Auto Show and the Key West Film Festival or the Stone Crab Jam and the Edison Ford Garden Festival, there are plenty of outstanding events for everyone happening across the state of Florida this month.

Make a point to get out around the Sunshine State and check out some of these fantastic events and festivals, then drop us a line and tell us how much you enjoyed the experience!
