Florida 55+ Communities With Pickleball Courts

When I first wrote about Pickleball in The Villages around 2009, it only had a handful of pickleball courts and at the time it was one of the only 55+ communities in Florida with pickleball courts.

My how times have changed!

Back then, just as the sport started to get popular, some communities converted a few of their existing tennis courts into makeshift pickleball courts, but today having pickleball courts as an amenity in your Florida 55+ community is a prerequisite.

Here's a list of Florida 55+ communities with pickleball courts, and (if available) how many they have:

The Villages – 229 pickleball courts (As of April 2022…more on the way!)

Most people think of The Villages first and foremost (pun intended) as a golf community, and that makes sense as there are over 700 holes of golf. But pickleball is clearly not far behind!

Valencia at Riverland (Port St. Lucie) – 37 pickleball courts

In addition, Riverland’s Sports & Racquet Club has 10 tennis, 8 bocce outdoor courts, and has already served as the host of the PPA Tour’s Riverland Pickleball Open.

On Top of the World (Ocala) – 29 pickleball courts

On Top of the World currently has a very popular pickleball resident club that plays regularly and holds an annual tournament every year. The club meets 7 days a week at 8:00 am, with each day being a different level play. Saturday mornings are reserved for teaching new players the sport. Sunday is open to all players. The club is actively working to expand play with other communities.

Cresswind at PGA Village Verano (Port St. Lucie) – 27 pickleball courts*

Technically, the clubhouse at Cresswind PGA Village Verano does not have any pickleball courts, but PGA Village Verano itself has a 27 court facility that has hosted the World Pickleball Open.

Solivita (Kissimmee) – 17 pickleball courts

Del Webb Stone Creek (Ocala) – 16 pickleball courts (8 current + 8 more on the way)

What must communities do to build pickleball courts in the community? I heard that the residents need to vote on capital improvements.
